MAIN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT BLEND TANK, ODOR CONTROL, AND GRIT FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS

EAST BAY MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT

BLEND TANK, ODOR CONTROL, AND GRIT FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS OVERVIEW

Beyaz & Patel worked with Brown and Caldwell on a new two-story building to house the sludge dewatering equipment, an electrical and control room, and a maintenance garage. The building footprint will be approximately 45 x45-feet, including a bridge or monorail crane, and fireproofing due to its proximity to wooded areas. This project provides improvements to the blend tanks, odor control, and grit facility at the EBMUD Main Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oakland, CA.

The project includes the demolition of a truck loading canopy, and the design of a new canopy; the design of a retaining wall at the access road; a 45’ diameter and 15’ deep primary clarifier, plus a retaining wall on the backside; a 10’x10’x10’ sludge pump pit with a stairway and handrail; and an emergency generator concrete pad.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SERVICES

Beyaz & Patel attended the kick-off and reviewed available as-built drawings and specifications. We also provided comments on the Geotechnical Report. For the Basis of Design, we submitted structural design criteria for the project to Brown and Caldwell to include in their report. For the Preliminary Design Report, we prepared structural sections. During the design phase, Beyaz & Patel prepared structural drawings, reviewed and edited structural specifications, provided in-house QA/QC, and submitted a 60%, 90%, and 100% design, at each stage incorporating and responding to District comments.
