"D" STREET WATER STORAGE TOWER

CITY OF MADERA

ABOUT THE “D” STREET WATER STORAGE TOWER

Beyaz & Patel provided a seismic and physical integrity evaluation of the “D” Street Water Storage Tower (Water Tower) for the City of Madera. The project’s objective was to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations for the feasibility of each option. The alternatives to be studied include the following: retain the tower at its present location; demolish and remove the tank; or deconstruct and remove the tank.

Beyaz & Patel performed a seismic and physical integrity evaluation to evaluate the different alternatives. To determine the water tower structure’s overall dimensions and member sizes, size and depth of the existing footing, material properties of the steel and concrete, and the presence of lead paint, Beyaz & Patel commissioned a geotechnical firm to conduct these tests.

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

Beyaz & Patel provided a condition assessment of the existing Water Tower and a seismic and physical integrity evaluation of the Water Tower at its present location, developing seismic strengthening measures, as required, to meet current building codes, evaluating the feasibility of each of the three alternatives listed above, and preparing a Preliminary Design Report documenting our findings and recommendations. Due to its historical significance, the city decided to deconstruct the tower and relocate it to feature elsewhere.
